About the Owner/Director
Gabrielle Crichlow is the esteemed captain of this ship. She has a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which she earned from St. John's University in 2015. Before that, she attended Temple University and earned her Bachelors in Psychology in 2009.
Gabrielle brings a wealth of academic excellence as well as a proven record of tutoring. While she was in graduate school, she worked for two “supplemental education services” companies that partnered with New York City schools. Since they partnered with the schools, she was able to provide between 20 and 26 free hours of tutoring to students every year. While she was working at both companies, she saw the academic struggles of low-income and middle-income families. "First of all," Gabrielle thought, "20 to 26 hours of tutoring - for the year - is definitely not enough for them. Second of all, most of these students are misdiagnosed with learning disabilities, almost illiterate, and undereducated." Gabrielle reached a point when she realized that these students deserved more than the limited services these companies offered them. It was in this moment that a light bulb went off her my head - "I’ll start my own company!" Her experiences in graduate school provided her with the insight she needed to excel at and enjoy tutoring, and to also inspire other tutors to do the same. Then she founded A Step Ahead Tutoring Services on October 9, 2013 and has operated it ever since.
Gabrielle's life goals are to become a full-time entrepreneur and to make community resources more accessible to populations in need.
